Patient Confidentiality & Privacy Notice

The protection of your health information and maintaining confidentiality are a top priority for us. NYC Health + Hospitals’ Corporate Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Officer (CPSO) within the Office of Corporate Compliance (OCC), Ms. Catherine Patsos, also Chief Corporate Compliance Officer, is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of patient information, and compliance with the privacy and security requirements under Federal and State law including HIPAA.

Privacy Notice

NYC Health + Hospitals’ Privacy Notice is a document which describes how medical and health information about our patients may be used and disclosed, and how patients can exercise a number of rights granted under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

We encourage you to review this Privacy Notice and become familiar with how your personal health information will be used and safeguarded, as well as rights regarding the protection of your personal health information. The information in the Privacy Notice is effective January 1, 2021 and remains current.

Questions, Concerns or Complaints

If you have a privacy related question, concern, complaint, or other privacy-related matter that you would like to bring to the attention of the Corporate Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Officer, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Corporate Compliance. Reports may be made in the following way:

  • by calling NYC Health + Hospitals’ toll-free confidential and anonymous Compliance Helpline at 1-866-HELP-HHC (1-866-435-7442);
  • by e-mail at CPO@nychhc.org.; or
  • ask to speak with the Compliance and Privacy Officer assigned to the NYC Health + Hospitals facility where you are receiving/or received treatment.

You may also ask a NYC Health + Hospitals staff member to submit a verbal complaint on your behalf to the Patient/Guest Relations Department at the facility where you are receiving/received treatment.

NYC Health + Hospitals strictly prohibits intimidation, harassment, or retaliation, in any form against any individual who in good faith participates in the Corporate Compliance and Ethics Program by reporting or participating in the investigation of suspected violations of law, regulation, or policies.
